RGA Files FOIA Request With The CFPB Over Alleged Falsified Report, Widespread Racism & Gender Discrimination Under Richard Cordray’s Tenure

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Republican Governors Association today filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) for records related to new claims by a whistleblower of a falsified report involving a payday lender and accusations of widespread racism and gender discrimination during Washington D.C. Bureaucrat Richard Cordray’s tenure as the agency’s Director. A copy of the new FOIA can be found here.

The request follows a report that Cassandra Jackson, a former CFPB employee, wrote a whistleblower letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions accusing agency managers under Cordray of instructing her to falsify a report in order to fine a payday lender and retaliating against her when she refused to do so. Jackson also claimed to have been the victim of “widespread racism and gender discrimination” from the agency’s management under Cordray.

“Richard Cordray’s mismanagement of the CFPB has already been the subject of numerous scandals, and this shocking new report raises even more questions for him,” said RGA Communications Director Jon Thompson. “If these latest allegations are true, they will be a major stain on Cordray’s gubernatorial bid and give Ohio voters further proof on why he cannot be trusted to lead the state.”
