RGA Breaks Fundraising Records, Brings In $63 Million in 2017

RGA In Strong Position To Elect Republican Governors & Counter Liberal Groups

WASHINGTON D.C.  – The Republican Governors Association announced today $63.2 million raised in all of 2017, including $27.2 million raised in the final six months of the year, setting a new fundraising record that significantly eclipses the $52.5 million raised in 2013, the last comparable year. This fundraising success allows the RGA to strongly support incumbent Republican governors, target key Democrat-held governorships, and elect a new class of Republican governors in 36 gubernatorial elections scheduled to occur less than 10 months from now.

“With a historic high number of Republican governors, GOP chief executives are transforming their states for the better, accomplishing meaningful reform, growing jobs and making government more efficient and accountable to taxpayers,” said RGA Chairman Governor Bill Haslam. “This fundraising success is a direct result of the hard work by every Republican governor and it puts the RGA in strong position to defend our incumbents and add to our ranks this November.”

“Republican governors are America’s Doers: They tell voters exactly what they are going to do, and then they do it. They take action and get results,” said RGA Executive Director Paul Bennecke. “The RGA’s strong financial position will give us the resources to push back against liberal groups – led by Labor Unions – who have made defeating our Republican governors and candidates their top priority in 2018.”

Over the past few election cycles, the RGA has expanded the majority of our nation’s Republican governors to 33, a historic high and more than twice the current number of 16 Democrat governors, which remains at a near-century low. The RGA continues to be the most effective political organization in America and Republican governors continue to be the best investment for advancing conservative policies.
