RGA Announces 2020 Leadership

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Elected RGA Chairman, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey Elected RGA Vice Chairman

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Republican Governors Association announced today that Texas Governor Greg Abbott was elected to serve as the RGA Chairman and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey was elected to serve as RGA Vice Chairman for 2020. Both assume the positions immediately and will serve for a one-year duration.

“From historic job growth and tax relief to improving education, Governor Abbott has consistently delivered remarkable results for the people of Texas. I have every confidence that he will bring the same leadership and work ethic as he assumes the Chairmanship of the RGA,” said outgoing RGA Chairman Governor Pete Ricketts. “The 2020 election offers exciting pick-up opportunities for the RGA, and I am looking forward to continue working with Governor Abbott and the RGA to elect more pro-growth and pro-opportunity Republican governors.”

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the RGA in this crucial year. Republican governors are delivering tremendous results for their citizens, and we are committed to continuing this progress by electing and reelecting more great chief executives in states around the country,” said incoming RGA Chairman Governor Greg Abbott. “With governor’s races in 11 states in 2020, we are focused on defending our incumbents and competing to flip governorships from blue to red. I want to thank Governor Ricketts for his leadership and partnership over the past year, and I look forward to partnering with Governor Ducey and our colleagues on the Executive Committee in the year ahead.”

“In states across the country, Republican governors are leading the way by fostering environments rich for job creation and putting forth bold, innovative policy solutions,” said incoming RGA Vice Chairman Governor Doug Ducey. “As we approach this election cycle, the stakes are high for millions of Americans who will benefit from Republican leadership in their states. I am eager to work with Governor Abbott and RGA leadership to ensure continued success.”

Joining Governor Abbott and Governor Ducey on the RGA’s Executive Committee for 2020 are Governors Kim Reynolds of Iowa, Larry Hogan of Maryland, Charlie Baker of Massachusetts, Henry McMaster of South Carolina, Kristi Noem of South Dakota, Bill Lee of Tennessee, and Pete Ricketts of Nebraska, who served as RGA Chair in 2019. Additionally, Governor Eric Holcomb of Indiana was elected Policy Chairman, and Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota was elected Policy Vice Chairman.
