RGA Ad: Tom Barrett Like Jim Doyle, Only Worse

Failed Governor Praises Democrat Barrett for Same Attributes

“Wisconsin citizens should be worried that Tom Barrett has the Jim Doyle seal of approval.  Such an inglorious distinction could only be earned by mirroring Doyle’s record of higher taxes, out of control spending and fewer jobs.”

– Tim Murtaugh, Republican Governors Association

The Republican Governors Association today launched a new television advertisement highlighting failed Governor Jim Doyle’s praise for his chosen replacement, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.  Doyle’s words of favor for Barrett are damning as the two politicians’ practices have caused Milwaukee’s and Wisconsin’s financial standings to careen into a fiscal ditch.  The ad can be found online at www.MayorTomBarrett.com.

“Wisconsin citizens should be worried that Tom Barrett has the Jim Doyle seal of approval,” said Tim Murtaugh, spokesman for the Republican Governors Association.  “Such an inglorious distinction could only be earned by mirroring Doyle’s record of higher taxes, out of control spending and fewer jobs.”

The Doyle-endorsed Barrett record includes a history of raising taxes every single year he has been mayor of Milwaukee.  At the same time, dozens of Milwaukee businesses have shut their doors and thousands of city residents find themselves out of work.

“Tom Barrett has been a disaster for Milwaukee, and now he wants to take his act statewide,” Murtaugh said.  “At least the people have been forewarned: Jim Doyle thinks Tom Barrett is A-OK.  That should be a big red flag.”
