Republican Governors: Terry Branstad Has The Necessary Expertise To Succeed As America’s Next Ambassador To China

WASHINGTON D.C. – Republican governors, led by RGA Chairman Governor Scott Walker, delivered a letter today to U.S. Senator Bob Corker and the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, in support of Governor Terry Branstad’s appointment to serve as America’s next Ambassador to China.

“Not only does Governor Branstad have the necessary policy expertise, he has a longstanding personal and professional relationship with President Xi Jinping. This unique bond will only add to Governor Branstad’s effectiveness in his new role.

As governors, we understand the necessary skills and knowledge needed to successfully run and represent a state. As America’s longest serving Governor, Governor Branstad has shown strong and effective leadership for more than 20 years. His extensive experience in international trade, economic development, and agriculture policy makes him a strong choice to represent the United States in Beijing.

We have great confidence in our fellow governor, Terry Branstad. He has represented the people of Iowa honorably for more than 20 years and there is little doubt he will do the same as America’s next Ambassador to China. We look forward to working with Governor Branstad in his new capacity.”
