Republican Governors Sign Pledge To Combat Anti-Semitism

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ten member governors of the Republican Governors Association signed a letter today pledging to combat anti-Semitism in their states, to work toward the eradication of bigotry of all kinds toward the Jewish people, and to support the State of Israel and its right to exist.

“Throughout history, Jews have been discriminated against. Societies flourish when all people are embraced as equals, not when members of particular races or religions are singled out, mistreated, and made into scapegoats.  History has taught us this lesson too many times.  Tragically, as United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has observed, anti-Semitism “is on the rise in all parts of the world.”

Today, anti-Semitism comes not only from Holocaust deniers and bigots, but from organized political groups and individuals who attempt to demonize, delegitimize, and apply a double standard to Israel, the most vibrant democracy in the Middle East. A new anti-Semitism fuels those who call for boycott, divestment, and sanctioning of the Jewish State.

Many states have made a strong commitment to combatting that particularly pernicious form of discrimination by passing laws that prohibit states from doing business or investing in companies that boycott Israel.  In order to build a more just, free, and civilized world, we continue to commit to do our part to combat anti-Semitism.

Today, we are proud to join with all others who have chosen to combat anti-Semitism and sign the Pledge at CombatAntisemitism.org.  Combat Anti-Semitism is dedicated to supporting the U.S. State Department’s Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism.  In support and acknowledgment of their efforts, we proclaim with one voice that anti-Semitism is a scourge upon our world, and pledge our commitment to its eradication.

We, the below signers, ask all others to join in signing the pledge.”
