Ralph Northam Tries To Run Out The Clock On Pipeline Questions

With two weeks to go until Virginia Democrats vote for their gubernatorial nominee, Ralph Northam is running as fast as he can from giving voters a yes or no answer on his stance on pipeline construction in Virginia. While his opponent Tom Perriello attended a “Memorial Day Pipeline Project meeting,” Northam was nowhere to be seen, citing a scheduling conflict. But in a statement his campaign later released, Northam still wouldn’t answer the question on voters’ minds, continuing to filibuster with his usual evasive talking points on the topic.

NBC Charlottesville reports:

“The other Democrat running for governor – Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam – was invited but could not attend due to a scheduling conflict. Northam’s campaign said, ‘the lieutenant governor’s position has always been that these projects must be held to the highest environmental standards, and he maintains that position.’”

Despite repeated embarrassments in primary debates, Northam continues to shamelessly dodge the issue, even literally speeding away in his Prius when asked last week. With just two weeks until voters go to the polls, Ralph Northam is desperately hoping to run out the clock on giving a yes or no answer for his stance on pipelines. Virginians deserve a governor who won’t run from tough issues when they become politically inconvenient, but instead of being straightforward with voters, Ralph Northam would rather obfuscate and avoid the issues that matter to them.
