Ralph Northam & Tom Perriello Ramp Up Democrat Infighting In Virginia

The Virginia Democrat gubernatorial primary is getting more heated between Ralph Northam and Tom Perriello with less than two months to go. In new interviewswith POLITICO Magazine, the candidatses viciously attacked each other in hopes of proving to Democrat primary voters who is the most far-left politician on the ballot.

In his interview, Perriello noticeably took aim at Northam’s past decisions to vote twice for George W. Bush:

“Ralph Northam has a hard time delivering those blows because he voted for George W. Bush twice. You’re going into a battle with a well-trained political operative with one hand tied behind your back.”

Northam used a curious defense, calling himself “uninformed” at the time:

“’Politically, there was no question, I was under-informed,’ Northam says now about his votes for Bush. He said as the president of VMI’s honor corps, he couldn’t lie when a New York Times reporter asked him if he supported Bush.”

Northam returned fire by taking a shot at Vermont socialist Bernie Sanders’ decision to throw his support behind Perriello:

“Northam is similarly dismissive. ‘This race is taking place in Virginia, not Vermont,’ he says.”

But Northam allowed his top surrogate, State Senate Democrat Leader Dick Saslaw, to take the most vicious swipes at Perriello. Saslaw bashed the failed congressman for his numerous flip-flops while claiming, “Ralph will win this thing by 30 or 40 percent:”

“State Senate Minority Leader Dick Saslaw has emerged as the foul-mouthed id of an establishment annoyed by Perriello’s presence in the race. He argues Perriello’s anti-abortion votes make it impossible to win the primary: ‘Not only did he vote for the Stupak Amendment, he wrote the mother——er.’ As for Perriello’s hopes of expanding the electorate, Saslaw scoffs. ‘That’s sheer f—ing fantasy. If he had Mike Bloomberg’s money, maybe he could make it happen. But this whole thing is a joke. Ralph will win this thing by 30 or 40 percent.’

The endorsement of Sanders, who was crushed in the Virginia presidential primary by the establishment-backed Clinton? ‘That’s worth two votes,’ Saslaw retorts.”

Despite Northam’s claim earlier this week that he and Perriello had “agreed to a positive campaign,” the gloves are coming off in the Virginia Democrats’ race to the left. As Tom Perriello, Ralph Northam, and their surrogates continue to viciously attack each other while pushing extreme far-left policies from outside the status quo over the next two months, average Virginians will see just how out of touch their party has become with their values. Northam and Perriello may believe that pushing failed liberal policies imposed by Democrat governors in Connecticut and California will lead to victory in November, but in truth they only drive mainstream Virginia away.
