Ralph Northam Still Refuses To Give Virginia Voters A “Straightforward Answer” On Pipelines

With almost a week to go until Virginia Democrats choose their 2017 gubernatorial nominee, Ralph Northam is still trying to run out the clock on whether or not he support senergy pipeline construction in Virginia. The Roanoke Times noted this weekend that Northam still “has not given a straightforward answer on whether he supports the pipelines,” while noting that his Democrat rival Tom Perriello has clearly come out against them:

“Northam, who has not given a straightforward answer to the question of whether he supports the pipelines, has said that the projects need to be environmentally responsible and completed with science and transparency in mind. Ultimately, he’s convinced the pipelines will come to fruition.

Perriello, on the other hand, has come out against both pipelines and has pledged to refuse campaign contributions from Dominion. Last week, he also signed a pledge to reject campaign donations from all fossil fuel companies.”

If Virginia’s current Democrat governor Terry McAuliffe, Northam’s top supporter, and his rival have no issue giving their position on pipelines, why does it continue to prove so difficult for Northam? Despite repeated embarrassments when Northam was asked about the issue in debates, the failed lieutenant governor is still running away from the topic at every opportunity, even recently speeding away in his Prius when pressed for an answer. Despite numerous calls for him to admit where he stands, Northam refuses to be honest with Virginia voters.
