Ohio Dems Retread Another Losing Candidate For Governor

This morning, failed former Congresswoman Betty Sutton announced that she will be running for the Democrat gubernatorial nomination in Ohio. With top Democrat recruit Tim Ryan taking a pass on the race, Sutton represents the latest retread of Ohio Democrats running a losing candidate after one-term governor Ted Strickland’s failed Senate bid. Like many other states, Democrats in Ohio find themselves suffering with no bench of suitable candidates.

In Congress, Sutton proudly voted for Obamacare, a law that could cause Ohio healthcare premiums to spike by as much as 10 percent in 2017. Sutton also voted to use taxpayer funds to bail out Wall Street and pushed for higher taxes on small businesses. Since being tossed out of Congress in 2012, Sutton has spent her time as an Obama administration appointee, and now sees the governor’s race as her opportunity for a comeback. But as she will quickly learn, Ohioans have clearly demonstrated that they have turned the page on her failed record.

Under Republican Governor John Kasich’s leadership, Ohio went from an 8 billion dollar deficit under Democrat Governor Ted Strickland to a 2 billion dollar surplus. Kasich’s pro-growth policies have also resulted in the creation of over 450,000 private sector jobs in the Buckeye State. Ohio voters have seen a clear contrast between the Democrats’ job-killing policies and Governor Kasich’s effective conservative leadership, and running another losing candidate with a failed record will not convince them that it’s time to take a step backward.
