New York taxpayers know that reckless tax-and-spend policies drive families and businesses away – and now, Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo’s state is facing a $4 billion structural budget deficit.
Just this year, US Census records found that “more than 1 million people moved out of the New York area to other parts of the country since 2010, a rate of 4.4 percent — the highest negative net migration rate among the nation’s large population centers.”
As people leave, the tax base dwindles.
NPR is now reporting that New York is facing a massive deficit.
“New York could be facing its first major shortfall in several years, partly due to falling tax collections…”
“‘The state is already facing a $4 billion deficit going into next year,’ Cuomo said.”
“The $4 billion structural deficit next year is not new. It’s even written into the state’s financial plan.”
New York’s $4 billion deficit comes as Cuomo signed into law hundreds of millions of dollars for “free” college tuition.
New York taxpayers shouldn’t have to put up with a disastrous cycle of unaffordable spending, higher taxes, and out-migration. It’s time for reform in the Empire State.
