While Democrat candidates continue to struggle in the Maryland governor’s race, a new Washington Post-University of Maryland poll finds that GOP Governor Larry Hogan continues to consolidate support, with his job approval rating climbing once again to a record high 71 percent.
The Washington Post reports that the Democrat gubernatorial primary has become “overshadowed” by Hogan’s “record popularity.” Nearly two-thirds of Democrats approve of Hogan’s job performance, earning Hogan a 71% overall job approval rating that “matches his previous record high.” The poll also finds that Maryland “residents are more optimistic about the state’s direction than in any Washington Post poll over the past quarter-century.”
Governor Hogan also leads all potential Democrat challengers by double digits. Professor Michael Hanmer of the University of Maryland says that he was “struck by… just how strong the support is, and how diverse the support is for Hogan, regardless of who the opponent is.”
Governor Larry Hogan continues to demonstrate that his successful efforts to reduce taxes and fees, bring jobs back to Maryland, and improve education are resonating with voters.
