New Poll: Liberal Politician James Smith Fails To Unify South Carolina Democrats

With barely two months to go until South Carolina’s gubernatorial primary election, Liberal Politician James Smith has failed to unify Democrats around his campaign. A new poll shows Smith stuck in a tight, three-way race for the Democrat nomination, tied with Phil Noble at 27 percent while a third candidate, Marguerite Willis, is now within striking distance at 21 percent.

For months, Smith has come under increasing attack from his opponents, forcing him farther to the left as he embraces radical positions like Bernie Sanders-style socialized healthcare for South Carolina. With political scientists warning Democrats must be completely unified in South Carolina, with “no bad blood,” to be competitive in November, the party’s increasingly bitter and divisive gubernatorial primary does not bode well for their chances of victory.

The Post and Courier reports:

“Meanwhile, Democratic gubernatorial candidates are in a dead heat.

Despite a bevy of high-profile endorsements for state Rep. James Smith, including one from former Vice President Joe Biden, the poll found Smith is tied with Charleston businessman Phil Noble at 27 percent.

Florence antitrust attorney Marguerite Willis… had the support of 21 percent of the registered voters polled.”
