New June Record of Migrant Crossings: GOP Governors Forced To Ramp Up Southern Border Protections in Biden’s Absence
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This weekend, U.S. Customs and Border Protection released the operational update for the southwest border, revealing a new record amount of migrant crossings for the month of June. This June’s 207,416 recorded encounters is a 9% increase over last June. There have been nearly 2 million recorded encounters since October of last year.
The report also details the following in regard to:
- Title 42: “92,274 encounters, 44 percent of the total, were processed for expulsion under Title 42.“
- Drug Seizures: “Nationwide, drug seizures (Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Heroin, Fentanyl, and Marijuana) by weight were up 25 percent in June compared to May.“
“Joe Biden has yet again abandoned his federal responsibility to address the dangerous and deadly migrant route at the southern border and instead left it to Republican governors across the nation to clean up his mess,” said RGA Communications Director Jesse Hunt. “Republican governors across the country have allocated state resources to address the influx of fentanyl, human trafficking, and criminals that now plague their communities due to the Biden administrations’ reckless open border policies.”
In April, 26 Republican governors announced the creation of the American Governors’ Border Strike Force, a multi-state partnership designed to disrupt and dismantle the transnational criminal organizations taking advantage of the chaos Joe Biden has created along the southern border. This action came months after the governors requested a meeting with Biden to discuss the federal response to the border and released a 10-point policy plan to immediately improve the crisis.
