National Observers Sour On Rhode Island Dem Gov Gina Raimondo’s Chances For Victory in November

As Rhode Island Democrat Governor Gina Raimondo re-election campaign struggles, with polls showing her in a dead heat for the general election while her approval rating remains below 40 percent, national observers are souring on her chances of victory in November.

Last week, Inside Elections moved Rhode Island’s gubernatorial race rating from “Likely Democrat” to “Leans Democrat,” noting Raimondo’s low approval ratings. WPRI-TV reported that the same publication rated Raimondo’s re-election as “Solid Democrat” at the start of the year, but after months of leadership scandals, weak job growth, and an energetic primary challenge from the left, momentum has shifted away from her, putting her in jeopardy of losing in a heavily Democrat state.

With Raimondo and her allies at the Democrat Governors Association clearly worried about her chances of winning as they spend big on attack ads against her Democrat primary opponent Matt Brown, she remains one of the most endangered Democrat governors running for re-election.
