Governor Lujan Grisham isn’t just tweeting her support of the bill signed into law yesterday that authorized the hiring of 87k new IRS agents to audit low and middle income New Mexico families, she is holding an event today to promote it.
As you cover Michelle Lujan Grisham’s event and the Inflation Reduction Act – which won’t lower inflation – remember these three key points about the bill:
- At least $20 billion of the revenue Democrats hope to collect from taxpayers with a supercharged IRS would come from lower- and middle-income earners and small businesses, according to a new analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. That’s in addition to existing audits of these income levels.
- For median-income families earning $50,000-$75,000, households are 33 percent more likely to have a tax hike than a tax cut.
- The percentage of $1 million-plus households getting a tax cut (19.4 percent) is twice as high as any other income group.
Maybe someone should explain to Governor Lujan Grisham that promoting tax hikes on the poorest New Mexico families amid a recession is an election loser.
“Michelle Lujan Grisham’s partisan colors shine bright as she promotes Washington Democrats’ tax hikes on working families,” said RGA spokesman Will Reinert. “Even sadder, Michelle Lujan Grisham has no accomplishments of her own to promote so she latches on to the unpopular agenda of Joe Biden and his far-left liberal cronies, like AOC.”
