During a recent cultural trade mission to the United Kingdom, Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant was honorably awarded the Freedom of the City of London by Lord Mayor Andrew Parmley and The City of London Corporation. Governor Bryant joins former President Dwight Eisenhower, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, and fellow Mississippian Morgan Freeman in receiving the award, which was first presented in 1237 AD. The award is a testament to Governor Bryant’s commitment to strengthen the relationship between the Magnolia State and the United Kingdom.
Since Governor Bryant took office in 2012, Mississippi’s state-assisted projects with the United Kingdom have paved way for over $211 million in investments and the creation of almost 500 jobs for working Mississippians, with companies like Rolls Royce and Drax Biomass enlarging their operations in the state. Governor Phil Bryant’s reception of the Freedom of The City of London symbolizes the enduring bond he has worked to build with America’s closest ally and the people of his state, who continue to benefit from his strong leadership and growing economic ties to the United Kingdom.
