A freshly launched ethics investigation is putting heat on Governor Janet Mills, who may have benefited from a possibly illegal $150K donation to Maine Democrats in 2018.
The alleged “straw donor” investigation will look to see if Governor Mills and her allies benefitted from an LLC created with the sole purpose of funneling money to help their campaigns without disclosing the donors.
“If Governor Mills benefitted from a straw donor scheme, that is clear grounds for serious punishment,” said RGA spokesman Will Reinert. “As the former attorney general of Maine, Janet Mills knows better than anyone that she betrayed the people’s trust if the state campaign finance regulator deems that the donation was illegal.”
