Malloy Protege Luke Bronin Abandons Hartford As City Faces Fiscal Crisis

While Hartford Mayor and Malloy protege Luke Bronin focuses on his gubernatorial ambitions, his city finds itself desperate for leadership as it grapples with another fiscal crisis. On Friday, the Hartford Courant reported that the state is “weeks away” from reaching a deal for a bailout package with Hartford and the city must “submit a detailed, five-year plan for managing its finances.”

But instead of putting his full focus on his job as mayor, Bronin is more concerned with his political ambitions. For months, Bronin has taken harsh criticism for abandoning Hartford, with The Day noting that he left the city feeling like “a collective speed bump on Luke’s road to higher office.” Hartford residents have also been clear in voicing their displeasure with Bronin’s decision, telling the Courant that “a lot of problems in this city need his attention and he’s too busy raising money for his exploratory committee.”

While Hartford faces a growing fiscal crisis, Bronin is more focused on his political ambitions than on doing his job. In a state that has already been plagued by economic issues due to Dan Malloy’s tax-and-spend policies, Bronin’s record of mismanagement and inattention in Hartford proves that he does not deserve a promotion.
