Democrat Laura Kelly will give her State of the State address tonight, and one thing Kansans can count on is their Governor won’t be giving a complete picture of what’s happened in Kansas under her failed leadership.
A few things that may slip the Governor’s mind tonight include:
- How she’s made Kansas “a midwestern sanctuary” for later-term abortions,
- How Kansas is still tens of thousands of jobs short of pre-pandemic employment levels and remains in the bottom half of state rankings for jobs recovered,
- How her “bipartisan approach” led to more vetoes last year than any Kansas Governor in 17 years, or
- How she previously vetoed a reduction in the grocery tax she suddenly wants to ax.
Why won’t Kelly be honest? The Democrat knows she’s in trouble after being named the most vulnerable incumbent governor in the country and just barely outpacing her challenger Republican Derek Schmidt in the latest fundraising report.
“Democrat Laura Kelly knows she’s in trouble, which is why her speech tonight will sound more like a fairy tale than the reality facing Kansans under her failed leadership,” said RGA spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez. “Kelly vetoed the legislature more times than any Kansas Governor in 17 years and two years ago vetoed a reduction in the grocery tax she suddenly wants to ‘ax.’ Kansans deserve a governor who is going to be honest with them about their record and keep them front of mind through their entire term – not just during an election year.”
