Laura Kelly is Ignoring Biden’s Border Crisis

Twenty-six Republican governors – including from neighboring Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma – requested an urgent meeting with President Joe Biden to discuss the crisis at the southern border, but Kansas’ Democrat Governor Laura Kelly has refused to take action.

Kansas law enforcement and health officials have warned of the drastic rise in fentanyl-related overdoses and deaths across the state, and Customs and Border Protection is now reporting fentanyl seizures rose again 34% from July to August. Meanwhile Kelly has repeatedly chosen NOT to take action or speak on the border crisis:

  • Kelly didn’t join governors who sent state law enforcement support, after urgent requests from Texas and Arizona governors, and
  • Kelly has refused to send Kansas Guard troops to assist with the border surge, despite Kansas doing so in 2018 and other Democrat governors like Kentucky’s doing so this year.

“Laura Kelly’s continued silence and inaction make her complicit in Joe Biden’s and Washington Democrat’s border crisis,” said RGA spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez. “Kelly has had months to take action or at the very least urge her Party’s leaders to address the 21-year record surge of illegal migrants and 50% rise in fentanyl pouring over the border. She repeatedly chooses to do nothing and instead toes the Party line and allows Kansans to pay the price of her and Democrat’s failure.”
