Yesterday, Illinois GOP Governor Bruce Rauner doubled down on his commitment to bring tax relief to the people of Illinois, proposing in an address a balanced budget plan that includes a $1 billion tax cut – while Democrats push for even higher taxes.
The Associated Press reports, “Gov. Bruce Rauner says a $1 billion tax cut should be the top priority for this year’s legislative session.”
Rauner’s plan would begin to roll back an unpopular 32% tax hike previously forced through by the state’s democratic majority. Democratic candidates for Governor, including billionaire J.B. Pritzker, support the 32% tax hike and are even advocating additional tax hikes that Illinois families cannot afford. Rauner’s plan also includes significant pension reform.
The Associated Press continues, “Rauner says enacting pension changes would mean ‘a nearly $1 billion tax cut’ that would allow him to ‘start rolling back’ the rate hike.’”
