ICYMI: Whitmer Admin Hid Contaminated Water

In case you missed it, Gretchen Whitmer’s administration waited over two years to tell residents of Benton Harbor that the city’s drinking water was contaminated with lead and unsafe to drink.

From The Detroit News:

State and city officials treated Benton Harbor’s drinking water with a corrosion chemical blend that failed to control harmful levels of lead for more than two years and rejected federal requirements to fully study its effectiveness.

As state officials waited to see if the treatment reduced lead to acceptable levels, they didn’t warn Benton Harbor residents that their water was unsafe or provide alternatives, such as bottled water, until late September.”

Reminder: Whitmer promised on the campaign trail to make clean drinking water a central part of her administration. But as governor, she has once again failed to deliver.

“Gretchen Whitmer’s empty campaign promises are becoming potentially deadly as her administration’s reckless inaction put thousands of Benton Harbor residents at risk for lead poisoning,” said RGA Spokesperson Chris Gustafson. “From contaminated water, crumbling roads, and her appalling hypocrisy and lack of transparency, Whitmer has consistently failed to deliver and Michiganders are facing the consequences.”
