There’s no doubt about it: the Oregon Governor’s race is on the map 👀

In case you missed it… in a New York Times newsletter this morning, the authors outlined how the showdown among two members of the same Democrat Party who have failed the state for decades in Tina Kotek and Betsy Johnson, and the GOP nominee Christine Drazan. The outlet frames the race as a great indicator of how poorly Democrats could fare on the ballot this November.

“Oreognians have seen how Tina and Betsy have failed to deliver the relief and promised outcomes they’re desperate for. It is no surprise that Americans across the country under Democrat-control are feeling the same,” said RGA Spokeswoman Kaitlin Price. “With the Oregon gubernatorial race as proof, it is now more obvious than ever before that Democrats know they are in trouble this November.”

New York Times: Unexpected Losses: The governor’s race in Oregon shows how Democrats could be in trouble in November.
“Unless the polls improve for Democrats, they could find themselves suffering similarly unexpected losses in November. By definition, it’s hard to predict these surprises in advance. But even blue states and districts that are normally safe may not be this year.

“Almost nobody in Oregon seems to be happy.

“In Portland, just 8 percent of residents think their city is on the right track, according to a May poll from Oregon Public Broadcasting. East of the Cascade Mountains, nine counties are so fed up with Democratic control of the state that they have voted to leave the state to join Idaho.

“Only Democrats have served as Oregon’s governor since 1987, but the party, weighed down by soaring gas prices, inflation and President Biden’s unpopularity, is in so much trouble in this year’s midterm elections that even deep-blue Oregon is suddenly competitive.

“But it’s not a sure thing, and Democrats are sweating the result for the first time in years.”
