Governor Mike Dunleavy’s Bold And Early Action Is Stabilizing Alaska’s Economy

Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy was one of the first governors in the country to put a team in place to stabilize his state’s economy and plan for revitalization in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. He stepped up for Alaskans by creating the Alaska Economic Stabilization Team (AEST), composed of a bipartisan group of Alaskan economic leaders and former elected officials and tasked with ensuring Alaska makes a powerful recovery and maintains a steady economy in the meantime.

Putting politics aside in the face of a public health crisis, Governor Dunleavy chose former Governor Sean Parnell, a Republican, and former U.S. Senator Mark Begich, a Democrat, to lead the AEST. Their team is coordinating with Alaska’s Unified Command Structure to develop a plan to help Alaska’s workers, businesses, and fiscal stability.

“The Alaska Economic Stabilization Team brings together some of our state’s most experienced leaders in economics, business, and public policy to assess the challenges and recommend decisive policies to protect jobs, hardworking families, and the overall economy,” said Governor Dunleavy.

Not only is Governor Dunleavy’s Alaska Economic Stabilization Team forming strategies to mitigate the economic effects of the pandemic, they are working with key leaders across the state in order to swiftly act. Keeping the all of Alaska involved in the recovery conversation, the AEST is engaging their federal delegation, state and local governments, and private sector leaders across all industries.

In a time of uncertainty, Governor Dunleavy has acted under the premise of solidarity and innovation to protect Alaskans from the impact of COVID-19 and lead them to a brighter future.
