Under Gov. Bill Walker’s Failed Leadership, Alaska’s Unemployment Rate Remains Nation’s Highest

As Embattled Alaska Governor Bill Walker attempts to paint a rosy picture of his tenure, the “Walker Recession” continues to devastate the state.

According to recently released unemployment numbers, Alaska’s unemployment rate increased last month to 7.3 percent, remaining the highest in the country. To make matters even worse, the state’s population is now declining for the first time in 30 years, as Alaskans flee the Walker economy for better opportunities elsewhere.

Walker’s solution to this crisis has been to push for a major tax hike on working families. But after years of credit downgrades, massive deficits, and abysmal business climate ratings, Alaskans know that more of the same failed policies will only make the situation worse. As a result, Walker is consistently rated as one of the most unpopular governors in America.

Fortunately, Alaskans will soon have the opportunity to turn the page from Walker’s failures.

The Associated Press Reports:

“Alaska’s unemployment rate crept up to 7.3 percent last month, its highest level since March 2012.

According to state and federal labor statistics, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate had held steady, at 7.2 percent, from August through November. The 7.3 percent rate for December is preliminary. The unemployment rate stood at 6.6 percent in Alaska in December 2016.

Nationally, unemployment last month was 4.1 percent.”
