GOP Momentum in Vermont: Phil Scott Opens Up Strong Lead In New Poll

WCAX is out with a new poll in the Vermont governor’s race, which shows Republican Phil Scott in the drivers seat and leading Democrat Sue Minter 47% – 40%.

Scott has continued to lead a positive campaign, focused on “using his business experience to curb government spending, boost job creation and a waning workforce, and make the state affordable for working Vermonters.”

Meanwhile, Sue Minter has struggled to distance herself from her mentor Governor Peter Shumlin, doubling-down on their policies of raising taxes and making Vermont unaffordable for families and business.

A new WCAX poll shows that just 15 days ahead of election day, Phil Scott is pulling ahead in the race for governor.

Stock car driver and Republican Lt. Governor Phil Scott appears to be in the driver’s seat with two weeks left in the race for Governor. Following WCAX’s Tuesday debate, Braun Research polled 603 registered, ‘likely voters’ over Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The results have a 3.99-percent margin of error.  They found Scott with a seven point lead over Democrat Sue Minter — 47 to 40. “The people who watched the debate were by and large Phil Scott supporters,” said pollster Paul Braun.

While many nationally expect Donald Trump to hinder Republican efforts down-ticket, Braun says he sees a flipped script here in Vermont. ‘Sue Minter’s numbers — which I think are suffering as a result of Hillary Clinton’s numbers,’ he said. He says Clinton may have burned some Vermont voters in her race against Bernie Sanders, dampening Clinton’s support, with a trickle down effect for Minter.” (Kyle Midura, “WCAX Poll Shows Phil Scott Pulling Ahead,” WCAX, 10/25/16)
