Floridians always hope a named storm is just an inconvenience, but, as we saw as recently as July, other times it can be deadly. That’s why everyone, especially those in state and local government, know to take every named storm seriously. Well, everyone except Nikki Fried.
Last night, during an event with Dolphin Democrats, Fried joked about Tropical Storm Fred while thousands of Floridians were losing power and the storm’s damage was still unknown.

“Floridians are constantly inundated with messages to hope for the best but prepare for the worst when facing a named storm,” said RGA spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez. “It’s essential the state’s chief executive treat the threat of every storm seriously to save lives and property. For Nikki Fried to literally wave off a named storm as thousands of Floridians were losing power is recklessly irresponsible and callous.”
