Oregon Republican gubernatorial candidate Knute Buehler continues to gain national attention as he gains momentum in his bid to oust failed Democrat Governor Kate Brown. If elected, Buehler would be the first Republican governor of Oregon in 30 years. A recent poll found the race neck-and-neck, and Buehler’s candidacy was even profiled by Fox News.
Forbes writes that Buehler “has a way of defying expectations.”
“An orthopedic surgeon and Rhodes scholar, this twice-elected member of the Oregon state legislature aims to become the first Republican governor of deep-blue Oregon in 30 years. Six months ago, experts dismissed his chances. But now? Well, the latest polls have him running neck and neck with Democratic governor Kate Brown, whose favorability ratings have dropped 13 points in the last year as the public has grown disenchanted with her lackluster performance in office.”
Forbes also praised Buehler’s focus on solving big “intractable” issues Kate Brown has ignored, like Oregon’s pension crisis and failing schools.
