Even Democrats Think Mark Begich’s Underwhelming Alaska Gov Campaign Is A “Lost Cause”

Alaska Democrat gubernatorial candidate Mark Begich’s campaign kickoff has been so “underwhelming” that even Democrats are beginning to write him off.

Since declaring his candidacy, Begich has been trying to re-brand himself as an “independent voice.”

But, according to a recent column in Juneau Empire, Alaskans aren’t buying his act. Voters haven’t forgotten Begich’s long record as a partisan Democrat who “rarely broke ranks with party leaders” and supported massive increases in government spending like Obamacare and “Obama’s huge stimulus bill.” Begich’s efforts have been so unpersuasive that even Democrats are concluding that his campaign is “a lost cause.”

After years of failed Democrat policies, Alaskans deserve a fresh start – not more phony political posturing.

His first two years in Congress were marked by President Obama’s huge stimulus bill and the Affordable Care Act, both of which became instant eye sores in red states like Alaska. In one of 10 opinion polls after that, Begich’s statewide approval rating approached 50 percent. In the rest it hovered in the low 40s.

Perhaps such numbers don’t bother Begich because the bubble of his friends and political acquaintances speaks louder than his history. Or it’s the best statewide Democratic candidates can do without a campaign footnoted by the self-destruction of the Republican challenger. Either way, an underwhelming candidate unpersuasively trying to sound independent adds up to a lost cause even if he wins.”
