Emails Detail How FL Dem Gov Candidate Andrew Gillum’s Office Used Gov’t Resources To Coordinate Political Activity

With an ongoing criminal investigation into Democrat gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum’s office use of a email system for political purposes, Floridians are learning more about the full extent of his growing email scandal. A new report from The Tallahassee Democrat details how Gillum spent months preparing his gubernatorial campaign on the dime of taxpayers, including using government resources to coordinate and communicate with Democrat fundraisers and PAC leaders.

The Tallahassee Democrat reports:

“Mayor Andrew Gillum and his chief of staff used city resources to hash out the framework for a political action committee that would become the cash machine for Gillum’s gubernatorial campaign.

In a message from Dustin Daniels via his city account to Gillum at his People for the American Way account on March 2, 2016 — a year before Gillum announced his candidacy — Daniels discussed revisions to the mission statement of Forward Florida, Gillum’s leadership PAC.

The email once again shines a light on the use of the city’s email accounts to convey political and campaign business unrelated to city activities.

Public officials cannot ‘corruptly’ use government staff or resources for political and campaign activities, nor can government staff campaign for political candidates on government property or time, according to Florida law.

The city’s employee handbook also prohibits employees from using city property and money outside the scope of their duties, and from using city money to buy anything unrelated to city business for personal use or for the benefit of any other party.”
