Despite Issuing Hollow Promises of Transparency, Andrew Gillum Embraces ‘Shroud of Secrecy’ In FL GOV Campaign

Despite promising voters transparency, Florida Democrat gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum continues to hide key information from voters about the numerous scandals surrounding his candidacy.

Last week, Gillum finally released a few of his receipts from trips with lobbyists and undercover FBI agents to New York and Costa Rica that are currently under investigation by the Florida Commission on Ethics. But the receipts were “more remarkable for what it didn’t include” and offered “little in the way of concrete evidence regarding who paid for key elements of the travel.”

Now, according to a new report, Gillum is refusing to “waive confidentiality in a state ethics complaint against him and open all documents and proceedings to public scrutiny,” even though it would only take “the stroke of a pen.”

If Gillum truly has nothing to hide, then he’ll offer the complete transparency that he’s already promised voters.

“Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum — who has touted his transparency as the Democratic nominee for Florida governor — could waive confidentiality in a state ethics complaint against him and open all documents and proceedings to public scrutiny.

So far, Gillum has opted not to do so.

Gillum could lift that shroud of secrecy with the stroke of a pen. Under Florida law, officials facing ethics complaints must request in writing that the records and proceedings be made public.”
