WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released new inflation data revealing a 7.9% increase from this time last year – another 40-year record high increase in annual inflation.
The consumer price index was up .8% from last month – making February “a four-decade high for the fourth straight month.” The price index jumps are impacting consumers across every sector of the economy, including painful annual increases in:
- The gasoline index, up 38.8% since last year;
- The food index, up 7.9% since last year;
- The energy index, up 25.6% since last year;
- Used cars and trucks, up 41.2% since last year; and
- Utility (piped) gas, up 23.8% since last year.
“As Americans are grappling with the crises at home and abroad, the rising costs of: groceries for their family, gas to fill up the tank, and heating for their homes are all at the top of the list of concerns,” said RGA Communications Director Jesse Hunt. “Throughout their terms, Joe Biden and Democrat governors have repeatedly tried to make gas prices more painful in pursuit of a radical leftist agenda that leaves American families footing the bill. Meanwhile, Republican governors have prioritized policy solutions to give real relief to their states, protect their economies as best they can in spite of national failures, and call loudly for the Democrat governors and their federal allies to get out of the way of American energy independence. Voters will hold Democrats accountable for this ongoing nightmare at the ballot box in November.”
