Democrat John Bel Edwards’ Obamacare Dodge Raises Questions About His Position On Single-Payer

Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards keeps claiming that Obamacare “has flaws” and is “not perfect,” but he won’t tell voters what he thinks needs to be fixed. This raises the question: Does Edwards think a Bernie Sanders-style single-payer system would be “perfect” for Louisiana?

Here’s what Edwards said in a statement earlier this week:

“We can all agree that the Affordable Care Act has flaws that we should be working to address…”

Here’s what Edwards claimed in a statement today:

“I have always said the Affordable Care Act is not perfect…”

So far he’s refused to tell Louisiana voters what those “flaws” are or what changes he favors. However, here’s how Edwards responded in 2017 when asked about the possibility of supporting a Bernie Sanders-style Medicare for All or single-payer system:

“I’m not going to say never — that’s a long time… Going to a single-payer system certainly has some advantages…”

With so many national Democrat Party leaders, including Democratic Governors Association Chairwoman Gina Raimondo, supporting government-run, single-payer healthcare, will Edwards admit whether he wants to see such a system imposed in Louisiana? Or will he rule it out? Voters deserve an answer.
