Democrat Governor Admits Obamacare Is “No Longer Affordable”

Will Democrat Gubernatorial Candidates Continue To Embrace Obamacare?

Minnesota’s Democrat Governor Mark Dayton admitted yesterday what many families across the country have discovered: Obamacare is not affordable and increases costs for many individuals. Dayton delivered what the AP called a “stringing critique” of the health law, after he strongly embraced it just a few years ago.

This comes directly after former President Bill Clinton labeled Obamacare as a “crazy system” for doubling healthcare premiums and cutting insurance coverage for millions of Americans.

While Democrat gubernatorial candidates like Roy Cooper in North Carolina, Colin Van Ostern in New Hampshire, Chris Koster in Missouri, John Gregg in Indiana and Steve Bullock in Montana have defended their support for Obamacare in the past, their campaigns will without doubt struggle to hide from these remarks by their Party’s leaders. Each of these candidates should be asked today if they agree or disagree with these remarks so the voters in these states can know exactly where they stand.

Minnesota’s Democrat Governor Mark Dayton Admits That Obamacare Is “No Longer Affordable.” “Minnesota’s Democratic governor said Wednesday that the Affordable Care Act is “no longer affordable” for many, a stinging critique from a state leader who strongly embraced the law and proudly proclaimed health reform was working in Minnesota just a few years ago. Gov. Mark Dayton made the comments while addressing questions about Minnesota’s fragile health insurance market, where individual plans are facing double-digit increases after all insurers threatened to exit the market entirely in 2017. He’s the only Democratic governor to publicly suggest the law isn’t working as intended.” (Staff,”Democrat Dayton: Health Law No Longer Affordable,” Associated Press, 10/12/16)

Background:

Bill Clinton Labeled Obamacare As A “Crazy System.” “So you’ve got this crazy system where all of a sudden 25 million more people have health care and then the people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half. It’s the craziest thing in the world…” (Naomi Lim, “Bill Clinton Calls Obamacare A Crazy System,” CNN, 10/5/2016)

Roy Cooper Defended Obamacare In North Carolina And Refused To Join A Lawsuit Challenging The Law. “This is not the first time Cooper has defied the wishes of the legislature. In 2011, despite appeals from the Republican-led General Assembly, Cooper refused to join a multistate lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare. (Kari Travis, “Cooper’s Refusal To Defend State Part Of National Trend,” Carolina Journal, 6/14/2016)

Colin Van Ostern Bragged That He Was The Deciding Vote To Bring Obamacare To New Hampshire. “The vote that I cast – the deciding vote to implement expanding Medicaid coverage…” (YouTube, Accessed 10/13/2016)

Chris Koster Has Advocated For Expanding Obamacare In Missouri. “Stopping in Joplin for the first time since the beginning of the general election campaign, Chris Koster, the Democratic candidate for governor, illustrated for a crowd at ME’s Place the ill effects of not expanding Medicaid in Missouri.” (Crystal Thomas, “Koster Stumps For Medicaid Expansion,” Joplin Globe, 8/31/2016)

John Gregg Praised Obamacare As A “Game Changer” For Indiana And Said It Was “Good News” That It Passed. “The challenge to it is that something does have to be done. We know that. Because it’s a game changer. That’s the challenge. The good news is it means that more Hoosiers are covered with health insurance…” (“WLFI Bonus Video: John Gregg,” YouTube, 7/3/2012)

Steve Bullock Welcomed Obamacare In Montana, Praising The Supreme Court’s Decision To Keep It. “Goverknor Steve Bullock (D) also welcomed the decision.’Forty thousand Montanans can now be sure they will not lose their health insurance or have their taxes increased in order to maintain coverage,’ he said in a statement.” (Sanjay Talwani, “Daines Says He Will Work On Obamacare Repeal,” KXLH-TV, 6/25/2015)
