Democrat Chris Mattei Becomes Latest Malloy Enabler To Quit Connecticut Gov Race

Democrats’ hopes of holding on to Connecticut’s highest office were dealt yet another blow this morning with Chris Mattei dropping out of the governor’s race and instead running for Attorney General. Democrats have struggled to recruit a top-tier candidate to run for governor in 2018 as candidates like Comptroller Kevin Lembo, Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, State Senator Ted Kennedy Jr., Attorney General George Jepsen, and even Malloy himself all refuse to run.

While Mattei tried early on to portray himself as an outsider candidate, he was quickly exposed as just another Malloy Enabler, pledging to continue the same destructive tax-and-spend policies that have driven Connecticut into fiscal ruin over the last seven years. Mattei even pushed for imposing a California-style “Robot Tax” on Connecticut businesses that would’ve hurt the state’s economy even more.

Failed Governor Dan Malloy’s disastrous record is proving so toxic to his fellow Democrats that even second-tier candidates like Chris Mattei are too afraid to seek the party’s nomination for governor. As Democrats continue to struggle with finding a serious leader who can unite their party for 2018, their chances of winning next November continue to decrease.
