Dem Gov Kate Brown’s Website Claims She’s Improved Transparency More “Than Any Other Governor In Oregon’s History” – Editorial Boards Disagree

Is Oregon Democrat Governor Kate Brown making false claims on her campaign website? New reports about Brown’s administration hiding her legislative agenda from the public raise questions about whether her claim is truthful.

Brown’s campaign website reads, “Kate has already done more to improve transparency in state government than any other governor in Oregon’s history.”

Has she? Editorial boards across the state are blasting Kate Brown this week for breaking precedent and keeping her legislative agenda from public scrutiny until after the election. The Bend Bulletin editorial writes that, “Brown is denying the public access to legislation state agencies plan for the 2019 session until after the November election is over. The records should be made public now.”

The Oregonian editorial board agrees, writing that Brown’s secrecy should “trouble Oregonians.”

“Contrary to previous years, the state recently denied a Portland attorney’s request for documents showing the 234 proposals for bills that the governor’s office is sending on for legislative consideration.”

Earlier this week, Brown also told The Oregonian that she would refuse to detail specifics about her future spending plans until after the election. “Gov. Kate Brown has divulged few specifics about her future spending plans and says voters will learn about them in her December budget proposal, after the election.”
