Dem Gov Gina Raimondo Tries To Cover Up 1,000 Days of Failure In Rhode Island

Yesterday Democrat Governor Gina Raimondo held a series of choreographed media events in Rhode Island, using her own cabinet secretaries as props to bolster her low approval ratings after 1,000 unaccomplished days in office. While Raimondo tried to put a positive spin on her administration’s lackluster results for the people of Rhode Island, the true story of her first three years in office is very different from the one she told. Here are just a few important items that Raimondo and her staff did not mention:

  • Rhode Island’s weak job growth that has been described as “anemic“ under Raimondo, with job creators like Alexion Pharmaceuticals closing its manufacturing plant in the state.

  • Consistent bottom 10 national rankings for business by CNBC, including a 50th overall ranking in 2016.

  • Raimondo’s failure to pass her signature “free college” proposal after the program was gutted by Rhode Island’s Democrat-controlled state legislature to just a fraction of the size she originally intended.

  • Raimondo’s refusal to address the growing child welfare scandal with Rhode Island’s Department of Children, Youth, & Families, including her decision to appoint individuals to lead the Department who did not meet state-mandated qualifications.

  • “Cooler & Warmer,” Raimondo’s botched, multi-million dollar promotional campaign that shelled out hundreds of thousands in taxpayer dollars to out-of-state marketing firms.

  • Out of control budget deficits, tax collection challenges, and fiscal issues that have burdened state government agencies throughout Raimondo’s time in office.

  • Rhode Island’s long and costly 2017 budget stalemate, which Raimondo sat on the sidelines for while legislative leaders resolved the impasse.

  • Raimondo’s alarming lack of transparency regarding her campaign donors despite her claims that her administration is the “most transparent” Rhode Island has ever seen.

  • The bitter and highly public feud between Raimondo and Democrat Attorney General Peter Kilmartin over the ongoing 38 Studios debacle.

  • Labor unions that previously supported Raimondo now openly oppose her, with some even calling for Democrat primary challengers against her for 2018.

  • Raimondo’s predecessor, Democrat Lincoln Chafee, has spent months criticizing her failed record and just this week fanned speculation that he may challenge her in next year’s primary.
