Dem Gov Candidate Gretchen Whitmer Sides With Union Bosses Over Michigan Students

In Michigan, Democrat gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer is making it clear she sides with the Union bosses over the success of students as she declared a new enemy last week: Detroit charter schools.

Instead of working to find a solution in the Detroit school district to help all students succeed Whitmer announced last week she would fine and even shut down statistically outperforming Michigan charter schools.

Crain’s Detroit Business reports:

“Democrat Gretchen Whitmer said Wednesday that she would not close Detroit’s persistently failing schools if elected governor…

Whitmer said she would take action to penalize public universities, community colleges and other government entities that authorize the creation of taxpayer-supported charters schools…”

In the Detroit News, Greg McNeilly, the chairman of the Michigan Freedom Fund, further explains how Whitmer’s moves are at the expense of students:

“In a startling attack on Detroiters with racial undertones, Whitmer promised to sacrifice the futures of predominantly minority and lower-income students attending public charter schools to protect dozens of chronically failing traditional public schools — and, more importantly, the union bosses who rely on the failure-factories to maintain their one-percenter lifestyles and keep their political checkbooks flush with cash.

Gretchen Whitmer knows the facts. She knows her attacks on charter public schools will disproportionately — and significantly — hurt poor and minority students. She just doesn’t care.”

Gretchen Whitmer continues to put her political agenda over the success of students. If elected, her agenda would hurt Michigan families and diminish the future many have fought hard for to attain.
