Cook Political Report Moves 2018 Minnesota Governor’s Race From “Lean Democrat” To “Toss-Up”

After eight years of Democrat control in Minnesota, a crowded gubernatorial primary, and voters making it clear that they are ready for a change, Democrat hopes of keeping the state’s highest office continue to grow tougher. In a new rating outlook for the 2018 Minnesota governor’s race released today, the non-partisan Cook Political Report moved its rating of the race from Lean Democrat” to “Toss-Up,” making it one of the most vulnerable Democrat-held gubernatorial seats in the country. With a primary already plagued by bitter infighting between candidates, Democrats face serious challenges to winning in Minnesota in 2018.

Cook Political Report reports:

“The open seats in Connecticut and Minnesota are both in the Toss Up column… One of things that became apparent in 2016 is that Minnesota remains more purple than blue. Both parties are hosting crowded primaries and the outcome of both those contests will determine how competitive this contest becomes in the general election, but after eight years of a Democratic Governor, voters might be ready for a change.”
