Connecticut’s Budget Crisis Worsens As Dan Malloy and Democrats Plan To Enact Major Cuts To Education

Days before many Connecticut students head back to school, Failed Democrat Governor Dan Malloy announced this morning that the state plans to slash and eliminate aid to dozens of school districts across the state. As the Democrats’ disastrous budget crisis continues with no end in sight, Malloy and his enablers have unveiled a funding scheme to reduce aid to 54 districts and leave 85 with no aid at all. This news comes just days after the Hartford Courant’s editorial board blasted leaders for the budget crisis’ impact on Connecticut students, warning that “voters won’t quickly forget who was responsible for their children’s maligned schools.” With Malloy’s top enablers Nancy Wyman and Kevin Lembo both jockeying to run for the governorship, voters will remember their administration’s failure and hold them accountable at the ballot box.

The Hartford Courant reports:

“Malloy, speaking at the Capitol Friday morning, said he wanted to provide districts with as much clarity as possible so local school officials will know how much aid they can expect from the state…

The plan holds the 30 alliance districts — some of the most neediest in the state — harmless and funded as they were before, Malloy said. A total of 54 districts will see a reduction in aid and 85 receiving no education aid

Schools across the state are delaying hiring non-tenured teachers, freezing other positions, putting off repairs and deferring the purchases of supplies needed for the upcoming school year. Some school districts are even delaying the opening day of school to conserve cash.”
