Connecticut Dem Gov Primary Gets Ugly As Dan Drew Sharply Attacks Luke Bronin

Connecticut’s Democrat gubernatorial primary is getting ugly fast as the party’s cast of Malloy Enablers steps up their criticism of one another. In a recent interview on the Jimmy Dore Show, embattled Middletown Mayor Dan Drew attacked his “corporate Democrat” opponents, taking specific aim at Hartford Mayor and Malloy Protégé Luke Bronin and his record on unions. Drew’s overt attack on Bronin is an obvious attempt to weaken his support with the party’s Big Labor backers and signals a clear escalation of hostilities between the two liberal mayors. With Drew stepping up his attacks on Bronin, Democrats appear to be headed for a negative, divisive, and bitter primary to succeed their failed governor that will further diminish their chances of victory in 2018.

JIMMY DORE: “So now you’re running against – you have a primary opponent who’s a corporate Democrat?”

DAN DREW: “There are a few floating around out there, but somebody just announced today who was part of the governor’s current administration, and actually as mayor has worked to eliminate collective bargaining and binding arbitration in Connecticut.”

JIMMY DORE: “And that’s a Democrat?”

DAN DREW: “Yes. Just announced today.”

JIMMY DORE: “How does a person like that call themselves a democrat?”

DAN DREW: “I Don’t Know.”

JIMMY DORE: “Isn’t that – I guess that’s why you’re running right? Because that sounds like a person who would traditionally be a Republican. Someone who’s against collective bargaining rights for workers?”

DAN DREW: “I don’t know how any Democrat could be against collective bargaining rights and I think you – if you look at charts, you can literally track the economic degradation in this country with the decline in union membership. The stronger the unions are the better off we will all be, and this Mayor did work to undo collective bargaining as we knew it in Connecticut.”
