The Colorado Democrat gubernatorial primary is quickly getting ugly.
Only a few months ago, Colorado’s Democrat gubernatorial candidates signed a “Clean Campaign Pledge,” promising not to run negative attacks against each other. But, as these Democrat candidates race each other to the left, this agreement is collapsing.
Just in recent days, a super PAC supporting Cary Kennedy released an ad attacking Jared Polis and Mike Johnston on their records. In response, Polis issued a statement labeling Kennedy as “desperate,” while touting himself as far-left on education.
As these candidates engage in personal attacks and eschew centrism, their chances of retaining Hickenlooper’s big tent coalition keep looking more difficult.
