Colorado Dem Gov Candidate Jared Polis Continues To Hemorrhage Support From His Far-Left Base

Colorado Democrat gubernatorial candidate Jared Polis is now facing a serious challenge for the far-left voters that should be his natural constituency.

Rather than working to build a “bigger tent” like outgoing Colorado Democrat Governor John Hickenlooper, Polis has instead focused his campaign on appealing to the far-left of the Democrat party. In hopes of quickly consolidating this support, Polis has made several pie-in-the-sky promises to his far-left base, while consistently dodging questions about how he would actually pay for them.

But, as left-wing Colorado Democrats recognize that they can’t trust Polis because he fails “to stand on principle,” this strategy is beginning to backfire.

On Tuesday night, Polis lost the Colorado Democrat caucus by more than 17 points to another far-left candidate, Cary Kennedy.  Impressively, Kennedy carried more votes than all the other candidates combined, offering “a strong boost to her candidacy.”

As Polis’ base abandons him for other candidates, a protracted and divisive Democrat primary increasingly appears inevitable.
