Cincinnati Enquirer: Richard Cordray’s ‘Foot-In-Mouth’ Nazi Remarks Could Haunt His Campaign For Ohio Governor

Ohio Democrat gubernatorial candidate Richard Cordray is facing growing criticism after two reports in the same week emerged showing Cordray equating Republicans to Nazis. This morning, The Cincinnati Enquirer’s editorial board blasted Cordray for his comments, calling on him to “ditch the political pot shots” while comparing his statements to Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” attacks.

Cordray was caught earlier this week comparing Ohio Republicans to Nazis, and just last night, another story emerged showing a separate campaign event in which Cordray compared the President of the United States and the White House to Nazis and the Holocaust. Cordray’s apparent lack of remorse for his repeated use of Nazi comparisons on those he disagrees with shows an alarming lack of judgement and character. He should immediately apologize for his reckless and offensive comments.

The Cincinnati Enquirer editorial board writes:

“You would’ve thought Ohio gubernatorial candidate Richard Cordray would have learned about the dangers of over-the-top comments from fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton’s ‘basket of deplorables’ faux pas. But that didn’t stop him from likening some Republicans to Nazi collaborators during a speech to the Allen County Democratic Party Women’s Club on March 8. Cordray’s campaign said he ‘regrets’ the comment, but this kind of foot-in-mouth moment can haunt a candidate (just ask Mitt Romney about his 47 percent comment).

…Cordray should stick to policy and ditch the political pot shots.”
