Governor Steve Sisolak imposed some of the most heavy-handed COVID restrictions in the country on his constituents, in the name of public health and safety. But it turns out, protecting Nevadans’ health was not, in fact, a priority after all.

Willden said he talked with the manager of the state’s licensing office, who explained to Northshore how to submit its application. But when the Palivos brothers thought it was taking too long, Willden called and emailed his contacts in the governor’s office and laboratory licensing bureau — an agency he had overseen as head of DHHS.

At Willden’s urging, Sisolak’s chief of staff, Yvanna Cancela, nudged the director of the state’s pandemic response, who nudged the head of the state’s licensing bureau, Cody Phinney. She in turn encouraged the agency to move up its inspection of Northshore’s Nevada headquarters in Las Vegas — much to the dismay of the supervising inspector.

“Governor Sisolak decimated his state’s economy and cost hard-working Nevadans their businesses, jobs, and livelihoods with a restrictive approach in the name of protecting public health,” said RGA Spokeswoman Maddie Anderson. “This bombshell report clearly shows the Sisolak Administration pressured the licensing bureau to rush approval for a COVID testing company that missed 96% of cases — no doubt causing more COVID cases and more deaths. Instead of deflecting blame, Sisolak must immediately apologize and launch an investigation into why his office was using its political power to pressure a state agency.”
