As Blunders Mount, National Dems Rush To Rhode Island To Prop Up Failed Dem Gov Gina Raimondo

Over 500 days away from her reelection, failed Democrat governor Gina Raimondo and her allies are going to great lengths to distract from her mounting failures as governor. With a lagging state economy, disastrous issues still plaguing Rhode Island’s Department of Human Services, and her legislative agenda meeting potential opposition even from her own party, Raimondo has called up out of state help from DNC Chair Tom Perez, former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick with an op-ed, and paid TV ads from the Democratic Governors Association.

WPRI-TV reports:

“DNC Chairman Tom Perez’s visit was a sign the national party wants to help – an even clearer one is the Democratic Governors Association’s decision to spend nearly $90,000 to air a pro-Raimondo ad on local TV stations through April 16.”

With over 18 months until election day, Gina Raimondo is already running in full gear for reelection. She and her national Democrat backers are clearly worried about her chances, and with good reason. Under Raimondo, Rhode Island has been ranked the worst state for business, lags behind pre-recession employment, and remains unable to address systemic issues at its Department of Human Services. Voters will remember these issues come 2018, and no matter how hard Raimondo and her allies try to cover her failures now, they know who is responsible.
