Architect Behind Ben Jealous-Backed Single Payer Plan Admits It Would Cost “Eye-Popping” Tax Increases

Maryland gubernatorial candidate Ben Jealous has made a single-payer government takeover of healthcare the signature issue of his campaign. Now, the architect of single-payer legislation that Jealous has endorsed is openly admitting that the plan would require massive, potentially “eye-popping” tax increases.

In February, Ben Jealous endorsed the “Healthy Maryland Act of 2018,” stating that “I applaud Democratic leaders for putting a possible solution on the table.” But in an interview this week, the lead sponsor of the bill, Sen. Paul Pinsky, refused to detail exactly how much the plan would cost, insinuating that it would be enormous.

Pinsky was asked by Maryland Matters, “What’s the fiscal note? I assume it’s eye-popping.”

Pinsky’s response? Well, we don’t put it in there. We say you have to set up a universal budget, and then you have to raise revenue to take care of it.”

Pinsky refuses to say that the cost won’t be eye-popping, refuses to put a number on the cost, and then openly admits the plan would require an undisclosed tax hike.

Ben Jealous and his far-left allies want nothing more than a massive, eye-popping tax hike on hardworking Maryland families. It’s a radical agenda that Maryland voters are poised to reject.
