Another Top-Tier Democrat Gubernatorial Recruit Says They Won’t Run – This Time In Michigan

Despite talking a big game on governor’s races, Democrats continue to struggle to recruit top tier candidates to run in 2018. The latest example is in Michigan, where Rep. Dan Kildee – touted as the most formidable Democrat considering a run – will announce today that he will forgo a campaign for Michigan governor and instead run for re-election to Congress. This leaves Michigan Democrats with Gretchen Whitmer as their front runner – a candidate who recently sided with Union Bosses over the success of Michigan students, commented that she “didn’t know” what the minimum wage should be, and confessed that she gets her policy ideas from TED Talks. Michigan Democrats are in for a rough 2018.

The Detroit Free Press reports:

“U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Flint Township, will tell his supporters Tuesday that he intends to forego the 2018 race for governor of Michigan and will run again for his seat in Congress.

Kildee has been seen as a formidable candidate for governor if he decided to get into the race. As a lifelong resident of the Flint area, he had a strong narrative to bolster a statewide campaign with his work to ensure the city was made whole after a water crisis caused lead to leach into thousands of homes and businesses in Flint.

Without Kildee in the race, former Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer, D-East Lansing, becomes the most well-known Democratic candidate in the race…”
