In Another Major Flip-Flop, Ralph Northam Reverses His Position On Sanctuary Cities Just Days Before Election

Virginia Democrat Ralph Northam has committed yet another major flip-flop. Yesterday, Northam announced that, if elected, he would sign a bill banning sanctuary cities in Virginia. This is a direct reversal of his position, after he voted against simliar legislation earlier this year. In an interview yesterday with WAVY News 10, Northam claimed he has “always been opposed to sanctuary cities,” but as his record shows, that’s just not true.

RALPH NORTHAM: “If that built comes to my desk Andy, I sure will, I’ve always been opposed to sanctuary cities, he knows that.”

Not only did Northam vote against the bill that he now says he would sign, but he’s bragged about having done so for months on the campaign trail, notably at an event in April at Georgetown University:

After he spent months taking heat from Virginia voters for refusing to support a ban on sanctuary cities, Northam now seems content to do a complete 180 on the issue in a desperate attempt to salvage his candidacy. With his campaign plagued by a growing list of embarrassing controversies and tightening poll numbers just days before Virginians cast their votes, Northam clearly thinks voters he can fool Virginians with a desperate eleventh-hour flip-flop on one of the election’s central issues. Unfortunately for Northam, Virginians have been paying attention to his record.
